Carousel House Recreation Center

Commissioned by: Rebuild Philadelphia
Designed by: DIGSAU, Studio Pacifica, Ground Reconsidered

The Rebuild project at the Carousel House will create a facility “inclusive for all,” retaining “all former programming” and adding new, diverse functions. A community-driven design is in progress and currently features a rehab of the existing building into a multipurpose space with two new extensions to the North and Northwest of the circular structure, housing a new pool and gym. The plan also makes use of the unused space between the building and the existing parking lot on the eastern edge of the site for a proposed playground.

Welsh Fountain Garden

Commissioned by: Fairmount Park Conservancy
Designed by: Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects
Anticipated completion: 2026

The current plan to rehabilitate and renew the historic Welsh Memorial Fountain and Garden in West Fairmount Park includes upgrades to accessibility, programmable spaces, planting, and lighting while maintaining close alignment to the original 1887 design. The plans include an interactive water feature, play areas, spaces for events and gatherings, and one-way traffic patterns along Memorial Drive to improve pedestrian safety.

Mann Center Entry Plaza Extension

Commissioned by: The Mann Center for the Performing Arts
Designed by: Ewing Cole
Anticipated completion: 2026

The entry plaza expansion project aims to enhance the visitor experience and alleviate congestion by creating a new and improved plaza, drop-off area, designated accessible parking, and accessible access to the Pavilion. The existing entry plaza is congested with pedestrian traffic and serves as the main hub for food and beverage concessions, causing circulation issues. The expanded plaza will redistribute traffic flow, eliminate temporary concessions, and create a beautifully landscaped garden promenade, transforming the entry experience into a park-like atmosphere.
